The Campaign
Learn Without Fear, Plan India’s advocacy campaign is about preventing all forms of violence against children in schools. While the definition identifies corporal punishment, sexual abuse, neglect, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, bullying, peer to peer violence, youth gangs, use of weapons and harassment on the journey to and from school as different forms of violence, the top three campaign priorities will be corporal punishment, sexual violence, and bullying.
Our Vision For the Campaign
Our vision is a world where children can go to school in safety and expect a quality learning experience without fear or threat of violence.
What We Aim To Do
Through the campaign we aim to:
- Raise awareness on the rights of children to learn in a safe (violence free) environment in schools and the negative impact violence on children.
- Advocate the government agencies for effective enforcement of legal protection for children, including making corporal punishment illegal in schools.
- Advocate for the development of support and reporting mechanisms for children against violence in schools
- Ensure access to methods of positive engagement in classrooms for teachers/ institutions.
What We Hope To Achieve
Through its network of partners in states of India, Plan India aims to get children, teachers, schools administration, government, civil society nod community to collectively raising their voices against violence-
- In partnership with other like minded organisations, ensure accountability of government for action and setting up of redressal mechanisms in schools to address the issues of violence in schools.
- Research papers documenting prevalence and impact of violence in schools.
