The story so far..
Ramu a student is bid good bye by mother like every morning to school. He is running late to school and is dreading the punishment he is going to face if he reaches late to school.
Ramu reaches school and is beaten up by the teacher for breaking the rules
On his way back home, Ramu goes over his day telling himself that he must finish the heap of work assigned to him at school. He reminds himself of the severe beating that he will receive from his teacher if he failed to finish his homework for the next day.
After reaching Ramu breaks down and starts crying while trying to finish his loads of homework and tells his mother that he does not want to go to school anymore. His mother dos not understand the reason and in turn threatens him with his father setting his thinking right if he disagreed to go to school.
When Ramu’s father comes home, he is also very upset with his son’s behaviour and blames him of wasting all the money he earns working hard and trying to get him educated. He then, beats Ramu and threatens him to severe consequences.
Ramu has no other choice but to go to school the next day. To know what happens the next day with him is depicted in our next series

It is an extremely innovative way to show the brutality in the education system and the consequences it bears on the psyche of children.

Thats a nice and a healthy way to make people aware of the violence in schools
Every child has a right to grow in a healthy environment. I think Plan is doing an excellent job which i am sure will bring a significant change to the lives of children
There is a lack of awareness about the issue of children rights among adults and children, specifically their right to protection and participation. I really appreciate Plan India’s endeavor to help these children and build on their rights.
What happens then….??? …does he go to school or not?
the comics really drive home the story from the kids’ side. could the pics be made a tad smaller though? they take an awfully long time to load…
I agree with Puneet, every child has a right to grow in a healthy enviornment. This LWF website is a very innovative idea to spread the awareness. Also there should be some kind of counseling for teachers in this regard.
Great way to get the message across
We need to understand the saying spare the rod and spoil the child doesn’t hold good today not that it did anytime before.
At extreme situations we may require to use the rod which I personally feel should not ideally arise; we must not forget to rationalise the child’s position. We must try to understand his behavior and the reasons behind it before we take up the stick. can we do this to our children atleast to start with?
I can, I believe most of us somewhere or the other can relate themselves to Ramu. Can we pledge to create another Ramu?

These cartoons remind me of the punishments I was given in School whenever I was late.I admit that as a child i should have been disciplined to go school in time but such punishments actually are deterrent in making children learn discipline. Punishments should be stopped!!
I always missed my first period of class ….cause all the time i was asked to run around the field….for getting late, for not wearing wright socks, for not closing the top button, or for chit chatting in assembly ect …list goes on …those punishments made me a diff kinda of person …yuk i hate it …later on when the time came when i could judge other …heheh i changed the school…soft words are much better that physical punishments… i Guess Ramu will start bunking school …so that he can keep both his teacher and his parents happy…heheheh
We have a notion that if children are not beaten up, they will not learn the essential things in life. But we hardly think about the consequences. Leave the corporal punishment, psychologists say that even vocal public insult can give birth to innate rage and it can also transforms rage into revengeful attitude. This “revengeful attitude” is behind the increasing number of child crime. It’s an alarming time to check it otherwise we will end up with nurturing Frankensteins!!
